Not A Ruff Day at Training Camp: Muscovy Finds His Forever Home
There's something fitting about a football team spending its summer teaching young players the value of teamwork, and then turning around to help a shelter dog find his own team, for life.
That's exactly what happened at Buccaneers Training Camp, where the Team Godwin Foundation partnered with Hillsborough County's Pet Resources Foundation and the new Paw Patrol movie for a Jr. Bucs Day appearance that mixed football, family fun, and a whole lot of wagging tails.
Pups, Pups, and More Pups
Jr. Bucs Day already brings out some of the youngest, most enthusiastic fans in the Buccaneers' orbit. There were kids decked out in gear and soaking up every second of the players on their practice field. This year (despite the rain and lightning delay) that energy got a four-legged boost! Adoptable pets from the Hillsborough County’s Pet Resource Center joined the festivities, giving Training Camp guests the chance to meet adoptable dogs looking for their second chance, right alongside a Paw Patrol tie-in that had young fans lighting up at the sight of real-life rescue pups plus their favorite on-screen characters.
For a franchise and a foundation that have made "adopt, don't shop" part of their identity, it was a natural fit: Put shelter animals in front of the community, in a setting built around joy, and let the connections happen.
One Good Boy's Big Day
Of all the pets who came out to meet guests, one story stood above the rest. Muscovy, a dog who had spent four months waiting at the shelter for the right family to come along, found his people at Training Camp. Four months is a long time for any dog to wait… Long enough that his tail had probably learned the sound of every passerby who didn't stop. This time, someone did.
By the end of the morning, Muscovy wasn't just a shelter dog anymore. He was somebody's dog! Heading back with a family who'll get to know his personality in the home instead of behind a kennel door.

Events like this one aren't just feel-good moments (though they certainly are that). They're part of a sustained effort, from Team Godwin Foundation to Hillsborough County’s Pet Resources Foundation, and community partners like the Buccaneers. Every pet who leaves an event like Jr. Bucs Day with a new family is one more kennel freed up for the next animal who needs it. We even heard a little kid tell Chris that he inspired him to adopt his next dog!
Muscovy's four-month wait ended the way every shelter pet's story should: With a family choosing him, on a day built around bringing people and pets together. Fire the cannons and go Bucs!
